It was love at first sight when farmer Wouter van der Kooij and Joëlle met at a barn party at New Year’s Eve 2006. Now these childhood sweethearts have been living together for quite a few years with their sons Berrie and Bas and (in-law) parents farmer Saskia and farmer Arie on their tidy dairy farm Kooij Hoeve. With dog Lou and cats Lemon and Apple, it is a cosy animal mess!
Wouter is third-generation farmer on this farm and was brought up on dairy farming. But farmer Wouter’s love of cows goes a step further. You can safely call it his passion to breed beautiful cows. He beams with pride when he talks about his beautiful cows. The Kooij Hoeve’s cows regularly win prizes at the breeding days. Top cow of the herd is Rika 349, from head to udder an excellent cow!
Grandma Saskia and Grandpa Arie are also very busy on the farm. Grandma lovingly feeds and cares for the calves and small animals on the farm and makes sure the yard and garden look like a jewel in the crown.
Grandpa does all kinds of jobs on the farm and is busy all day. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree because (grand)sons Berrie and Bas also love life on the farm. Berrie loves helping daddy feed the cows and Bas loves cuddling the sweet calves on the farm.
There is plenty to do and discover on this farm. You can take a look at farmer Wouter and farmer Arie in the milk pit or help farmer Saskia look after and feed the calves. Of course, the other animals on the farm also want to be fed and cuddled. There are chickens, cats and bunnies living in the cuddle barn who can’t wait to be (gently) stroked. If you are lucky, you might even get a ride on the tractor!
And when you are not cuddling or feeding the animals, you can play on the farm. Romp around on the go-karts, jump on the trampoline or rummage around in the mud kitchen and build huts in the tree-line.
The farm is located in a nice quiet spot on the island of Voorne-Putten, between the port of Rotterdam and sunny Zeeland, in the middle of the polder and close to the lovely towns of Brielle and Hellevoetsluis and the beaches of Rockanje and Oostvoorne.
So, would you like to get to know this nice farming family who would love to tell you all about modern dairy farming and at the same time enjoy nature, animals, games and peace and quiet? Then FarmCamps Kooij Hoeve is the right place for you!
