Wij hebben 3 nachten gekampeerd bij FarmCamps de Oostermaat, het was voor ons de eerste keer dat we bij een camping van FarmCamps waren en wat een succes was dat! De kinderen genoten enorm van alles wat er op de camping te doen was, zoals de vele skelters, de trampoline, de zandbak met water, de speurtocht, de babypoesjes, de geitjes, de varkens, het voeren van de dieren, de hooischuur enz. We zijn die vier dagen de camping niet af geweest omdat de kinderen zich zo goed vermaakten op de camping, dus ook voor ons was het echt vakantie! 😃 De kleinschaligheid was ook erg fijn, evenals de boerderijwinkel waar we onszelf konden bedienen met ijsjes en andere benodigdheden.

On the farm of farmers Rindert and Gerdien there is so much to do that you will never be bored. Ride go-karts around the farm, build huts in the hay barn, bounce on the trampoline, help in the stable or cuddle the animals.
At Pieperweg 3 in Genemuiden, Rindert and Gerdien do not grow potatoes, but keep 110 cows and about 50 young cattle! The modern dairy farm is hidden behind a dike in the central Netherlands, close to the beautiful Hanseatic cities and nature reserve Het Zwarte Meer. With the help of solar panels, the farm is almost completely energy neutral. And the feed for the cows (roughage, maize and grass) is grown by farmer Rindert himself. Since 2018, Rindert and Gerdien and their 3 kids Koen, Tim and Carlijn have lived in this beautiful place in the polder. Farm life is not new to Rindert and Gerdien. Rindert grew up as a farmer’s son and with three successors, he and Gerdien started looking for a suitable place for their business and settled in Genemuiden. Whereas Gerdien used to work in the office, she now works 100% on the farm. Together, they found a nice division: he looks after the cows, and she looks after the calves. The cows are frequent prize winners at breeding stock events in the towns of Putten and Oldenbroek. The milking is done by a milk robot, so the cows can decide for themselves when they would like to be milked. There is never a dull moment on the farm. Cruise the yard in a go-kart, build huts in the Hay Hay Play Barn, jump on the trampoline, mess around in the mud kitchen or cuddle the other animals. Apart from the 160 cows and calves, many other animals live on the farm. Sheep and lambs help to keep the grass short and then there are goats, rabbits, chickens, the farm dogs Maxima, Suzy, Roxy en Annie, a pony and 2 cute cats that love a cuddle. So, would you like to become acquainted with life on a modern dairy farm and at the same time enjoy nature, animals, playing and relaxation? Then De Oostermaat is the place to be!

Where do I sleep?

At De Oostermaat, the 10 luxury tents are playfully set up on a cosy field with plenty of space and privacy and a view of the meadows and, in the distance, the Kamperzeedijk. From the tent, you can see the kids playing and walk straight to the animal pasture, play barn or cowshed. You can choose a Barn Tent with its own bathroom with bath or Safari Tent with its own toilet (you can shower in the sanitary building).

Fun and Educational

Your farm adventure is only truly complete when you also learn something on the farm. And farmer’s wife Gerdien and farmer Rindert personally make sure of that.

Farmer Rindert tells you all about milking the cows with the milking robot and loves it when you help him sweep the barn. Farmer’s wife Gerdien shows you how the calves are fed. Of course, the goats, rabbits, sheep and the other animals also need care. And when the grass needs to be cut, you might even get the chance to join the farmer on the tractor out in the fields.

And something extra fun: farmer’s wife Gerdien often has wildflowers growing around the farmyard. Sometimes you’re allowed to pick a small bunch for your tent, but always make sure to ask first.

Prefer playing? Then you’ll definitely have a great time on the farm as well. Racing around on go-karts, jumping on the trampoline, building dens with your new friends in the hay barn, climbing the tractor tyre tower or getting messy in the sandpit – everything is allowed.

On Sundays, FarmCamps De Oostermaat observes a day of rest. On this day, no activities take place, except for feeding the animals.

Convenient and delicious

How convenient and delicious is that? Your breakfast is delivered straight to your tent by farmer’s wife Gerdien. On the farm, you’ll also find a well-stocked pantry where you can buy a selection of basic groceries. You can also order fresh bread rolls from farmer’s wife Gerdien – how handy is that!
Not in the mood for piles of laundry when you get home? Then order the towel package and rent the one and only FarmCamps farmer’s overall for the kids. They’ll look just like real farmers – and their clothes stay nice and clean too.
All of these extras can be added during the booking process, but of course you can also arrange everything on site.

This is all there is to do nearby

From experience, we know that it’s most likely you will not even leave the farm. Simply because there is so much to do at FarmCamps De Oostermaat and the kids will be far too busy to get bored. As parents, this is when your downtime starts too, right?

For those who still like to get out and see some of the surrounding area, there is lots to see and do within half an hour of the farm. If you like a bit of culture you will love strolling around the old must see hanseatic cities of Kampen, Hasselt and Zwolle. If you prefer to be out on the water there are plenty of water sports options for example, Zwartsluis or rent a boat at the Zwarte Meer lake. There is something for everyone!
