At this modern dairy farm on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee, not only the guests enjoy all the luxury. The cows are also treated like princesses by farmer Huibert, farmer’s wife Annet, their youngest sons William and Marijn and eldest son Corens and his girlfriend Gerjanne. In the bright and spacious cow barn, the ladies can choose whether they are inside or outside and lie on real “cow mattresses”. This way of farming therefore produces particularly beautiful and happy cows, which often win prizes at the Hellevoetsluis Breeding Days.
Besides the love for his animals, Farmer Huibert is also passionate about the environment. The newly built farmhouse (2010) is complete with solar panels and energy efficient lighting in the barn, making the farm completely energy neutral in terms of electricity. He also produces his own cow fodder from corn and grass which then re-grows on the farmland thanks to the manure from the cows. A beautiful circle of life.
The farm is located in a beautiful and peaceful area on the island, in the middle of a polder and a stone’s throw away from the Haringvliet nature reserve and the charming town of Middelharnis. Despite its natural beauty, the island itself is not yet overwhelmed by tourism. Surrounded by water from the Haringvliet, the Grevelingen lake and of course the North Sea, there are more than 25 kilometers of coastline so you can always find a peaceful spot on the water.
If you are looking for a unique dairy farm experience in a quiet, beautiful area where you can enjoy a spot of island life then look no further – FarmCamps Op Flakkee has it all.
What a great choice!

With more than 25 kilometers of coastline you can always find a peaceful spot on the water.

But if you do still want to see something of the local area that the island of Goeree-Overflakkee has to offer then you’ll not be disappointed. Located on the border of South Holland and Zeeland this island is largely regarded as one of the most northerly Zeeland islands, sandwiched between the waters of the North Sea, the Krammer-Volkerak, Grevelingen lake and the Haringvliet nature reserve. Whether you are cycling through the vast polders, strolling through the dunes, sunbathing on the beach or swimming in the waters here – there is something for everyone to enjoy. There are also many charming villages to visit like Middelharnis, Goedereede and Zierikzee.
Just 15 km from the farm, located between Bruinisse and Oude Tonge, Grevelingendam is a beautiful area of secluded beaches, including a swimming pool, to relax and enjoy yourself. In addition to swimming and playing, you can get to grips with a number of different water sports here. If you fancy a snack and a drink then visit the Lake View Beach pavilion.
Offering both indoor and outdoor swimming facilities, ‘t Zuiderdiep can be enjoyed by guests of all ages, regardless of the weather. This swimming paradise has a subtropical indoor pool with a rapids area, whirlpool, wading pool, water umbrella and a large outdoor pool with slides and children’s area. There is also a lovely space to get a refreshing drink.
Let the kids blow off some more steam at this fun playground including a jungle gym, trampolines, swings, carousels, slides and a sandpit. Your mini-farmers won’t be bored for a second. The older kids can also enjoy table tennis and table soccer.
Adventurers big and small can spend the day exploring Adventuredome in Hellevoetsluis. With both an indoor and outdoor play area there is plenty to see and do here including a soft play area, glow in the dark mini golf, a Lego house and large blocks to build with for the younger kids, together with laser games for the older ones. Outdoors you’ll find a pirate ship, tunnel and fort and 27 meter long obstacle course. 30 minutes from the farm.
For a fun day out with the kids we highly recommend a trip to Fauna Park Flakkee. This beautifully landscaped park of 25,000m2 is full of fauna and flora. The park plays host to a wide variety of animals ranging from parakeets to birds of prey, owls and several larger animals such as capybaras, deer and even a white kangaroo. There is also a petting zoo with rabbits and goats, not to mention a treasure hunt or a spot of mini golf to keep you occupied.
Between Haringvliet and Nieuwendijk is the last true south-west island in The Netherlands. Sail with the ferry to the island of Tiengemeten and get blown away by its pristine wilderness, ancient countryside and the many species of birds that breed here together with more than 100 Scottish Highlanders that roam freely. Kids can play around to their hearts content while discovering various parts of the island and for toddlers there is Ukkie Island where they can dig, scramble and splash around.
Near the farm, in the heart of Sommelsdijk, you will find the historic regional museum of Goeree-Overflakkee. Spread over seven small houses dating back to the seventeenth century you can step back in time and discover all about the local history of the island. Practice for example on the famous reading board in the old schoolroom; discover in the museum attic how craftsmen used to go to work or visit the old village shop.
