Sustainability at FarmCamps

FarmCamps

At FarmCamps, we are concerned with nature and animals on a daily basis. We believe it is our responsibility to make a positive contribution to the environment and society and raise awareness about it. Our sustainability policy and the short- and long-term goals we have set for ourselves in this reflect our commitment to the environment and society, and support our mission to bring families closer to nature through educational and sustainable farm holidays.

Our mission

FarmCamps is all about fun and adventure in nature! We want families, young and old, to have a great time while learning all about farm life and how important nature is. Our farm holidays are not only very fun, but also educational. They give you a chance to take a break from all the hustle and bustle and experience unforgettable moments and adventures together. Come and discover how cool farm life is and how we can take care of our beautiful planet together!

Our vision

At FarmCamps, we want to offer holidays that are good for the planet and the people on it. We want to show how important it is to take care of the earth. Our dream? That everyone, big and small, learns how fun and important farms are and how together we can make our world more beautiful. We hope that everyone who comes to spend their holidays with us will learn how special our planet is and how we can all help.

Education and awareness

Since our founding in 2012, education and awareness have been our priorities. A farm holiday offers several sustainability benefits. A farm holiday can help promote understanding and awareness of rural life, agriculture and the environment. By giving guests the opportunity to participate in farm activities and get in touch with nature, FarmCamps contributes to education and awareness of nature and (sustainable) agriculture.

With farm passports full of interesting facts and knowledge questions, guided tours of the farmyard, farmhand diplomas and interactive activities on the farm, we teach children in particular, but certainly also parents, about the farm, animals and nature.

We like to invite our customers to sit down with the farmer and farmer’s wife in person and hear directly what they are doing and what challenges lie ahead. With mutual understanding, we should be able to make the world more sustainable together.

FarmCamps aims to provide all sites with the Green Key seal of approval within three years.

Travelling green

FarmCamps are small-scale farm holidays in the Netherlands. The alternative to the large-scale bungalow parks and campsites where you have to bring your own camping equipment. With the first farm recently opened across the border, in Germany, farm holidays remain a lot more sustainable than travelling far away by plane, for example.

Farmers in this day and age mostly only have the option of getting bigger and bigger to meet all the demands and earn a normal living.

Therefore, we help local farmers gain additional income and thereby support the community. Moreover, these partnerships help maintain small-scale, sustainable agricultural practices and protect the natural environment.

Sustainability on the farm

FarmCamps facilitates the tents on all farms, the farmer remains the owner and responsible when it comes to what happens on the farm. We, and therefore all farms, like the whole of society, are taking a step towards sustainability. So what exactly are we doing, you will think?

Did you know that…

  • Some farmers are further along in this process than others. There are farms that have biogas installations, organic farming or, on the contrary, do a lot of ‘nature-inclusive farming’; farming where animal welfare, sustainability and nature development are priorities.
  • Many farms adopt sustainable farming practices, such as reducing the use of pesticides and promoting biodiversity on their property.
  • More and more farms are installing electric charging stations to support and promote sustainable driving.
  • FarmCamps encourages selling local products in the farm shops and serving locally produced food items to our guests.

And did you also know that we have been doing quite a bit of business with our tents on all these beautiful farms:

  • We have developed a tent which has a modular design that allows us to keep any replacements small and add upgrades afterwards.
  • We use sustainable wood and sturdy Dutch-made canvas, which makes our tents last extra long.
  • We aim for low energy and waste consumption. For example, we replace old gas stoves with electric heating, often powered by solar energy.

Future-oriented initiatives

  • FarmCamps aims to provide all sites with the Green Key seal of approval within three years.
  • From 2024, we will implement the measurement and monitoring of water and energy consumption of our tents on our farms to lay a foundation for further improvements in sustainability.
  • In 2024, we will work on promoting biodiversity on our farms. In doing so, we will again increase and emphasise the educational aspect of farm holidays.
  • We want to take a crack at rolling out sound waste management by 2024. Think recycling and composting.
