Meet Sentine, Gavin and their three children Jacob, Alice and Tobias. This lovely couple met on a construction site in Middelburg where Gavin was the archaeologist and she the trainee. Now they are the proud residents of one of the largest historical farmhouses on Walcheren, which for centuries has been leased out as a royal estate of the House of Orange.
In 1990 it became the property of Sentine’s parents Jo and Tineke, who developed the farm and campsite into what it is today. Even though Sentine took over in 2018 you will definitely still see Jo and Tineke help out around the farm.
You will become familiar with the sight of Farmer Sentine and will most likely spot her around the farm carrying out her daily chores. If she is not found out in the fields growing wheat, potatoes, sugar beet, onions or corn, she is busy with the campsite and her guests. Gavin still works as an archaeologist so you may see a little less of him on the farm, but during weekends and the holidays he likes to take out his magic metal detector to find treasures in the fields together with the kids. How cool is that!
And it does not stop here. How about the pigs, chickens, sheep, goats, geese, cats and rabbits that have to be fed? Or race endlessly across the yard with one of the many go-karts or bikes? And when the weather is nice you can be at the Veerse Meer Lake or one of the beautiful beaches of Walcheren, although we suspect it is quite possible that you may not leave the grounds of this hugely hospitable and beautiful farm!
What a great choice!
Endless go-karting around the barn
This is what makes this farm so much fun!
Oranjepolder is situated right in the middle of the gorgeous Veerse Meer lake and the town of Middelburg, on the Zeeuwse Walcheren “Island.” This area of land which is named the Oranjepolder (polder means reclaimed land) was reclaimed in 1618. It is within this area of reclaimed land that you will find the national treasure and monument of Oranjepolder farm, which is now home to farmer Sentine and her husband Gavin. This listed farm was formerly a royal estate belonging to the House of Orange no less!
At Oranjepolder you can choose between 2 types of luxurious tents. There are 4 luxury Safari tents with their own private toilet. The showers are located in the former pigsty which has been transformed into a modern shower block. It is also possible to rent private sanitary facilities. There are also 4 luxurious Barn tents with private toilet, bath and wait for it…….., a dishwasher in the fully kitted out kitchen. It’s going to be hard to choose!
This FarmCamps farm is situated on a quiet road surrounded by fields. Veerse Meer lake is nearby: a great location for swimming and watersports. With its shallow shore it is particularly suitable to families with children.
The farmyard houses the family’s residential building and a huge barn. To the rear and adjacent to the monumental barn are 4 fields. The quiet field at the rear is where you will find the 8 luxurious Safari and Barn tents which look out onto wide panoramic views of arable farmland.
The fields behind the barn are reserved for private camping emplacements. This is also where you find the playground so the children are never far away and always safely in sight.
Luxury Safari Tent with toilet in the tent. Spaciously furnished including a cosy living area.
Luxury Barn tent with bathroom in the tent. Spaciously furnished including a cosy living area.
At FarmCamps Oranjepolder there are also 16 camping spots for guests with their own camping equipment. More information can be found on the website of the farm itself.
Your farm adventure wouldn’t be complete without acquiring new farming skills. Farmer Sentine will personally see to it that you learn everything there is to know about wheat, potatoes, sugar beet and the corn she grows. Jo, the farmer’s Father, is a dedicated farmer too and if he isn’t busy helping out on the farm he will tell you all he knows about his craft. Besides all that, you can help feed the chickens, sheep, goats, geese and pigs that walk around the “cuddling meadow”. In 2022 there is also a corn maze. How cool is that!
If you prefer to simply play, then you’re in for a great time on the farm too. Race around the yard with your go-kart or bike or check out the climbing frame before zooming down its slide. See who can jump the highest on the trampoline, play in the sand with mud kitchen or have a game of football. Even poor weather won’t stop you from having fun. In the barn there is the play corner with hay to explore or you can join in a game of table tennis or shuffleboard. At the picknick tables you can read or make a drawing. Explore, have fun and make yourself feel at home. Please note that the spoken language during these activities is Dutch.
During check-in all children are offered a Farmer’s Passport from FarmCamps. These are loaded with fun and educational activities which they can do independently or together with their farmer. Your mini-farmers can discover and experience real life on a farm.
For each completed task they will receive a stamp in their Farmer’s Passport. When their work is done they will graduate with their own farmhand diploma!

Farmers’ Wife Sentine tells you all about the crops that are grown and about the journey from the grain to your plate. You can grain your own wheat, in order to make your own ‘Zeeuwse Bolussen’, which you obviously get to eat after!
Find hidden treasures out in the field under the guidance of Gavin the Archaeologist. You get to use a real metal detector as with the naked eye you cannot see what’s hidden beneath…
Take a ride with Sentine on the tractor. She regularly takes the open trailer out for a spin. The whole tour takes about 45 minutes, it’s great fun and full of excitement for the kids. What’s more, you get to see more of the lovely polder fields too.
Every day the rabbits, pigs, goats and chickens need feeding and farmer Sentine can most certainly do with you helping out!
Nothing beats ending a busy day on the farm with a cosy campfire. Enjoy the sunset and a take time to have a relaxed chat with your friends, family or the other guests whilst the kids entertain themselves toasting marshmallows on the fire. Sentine will build the fire with the children and will bring the marshmallows. You can also rent a fire pit to use next to your own tent.
There are a few fields behind the large barn on the farmyard. The furthest field is the playing field with goals for football. A great place to play together with your (new) friends or with your parents.
Veerse Meer is a water lover’s paradise. Enjoy a swim with the kids, do watersports with the whole family, rent a boat or canoe, or take a boat trip along the numerous uninhabited islands.
