10x fun winter activities – FarmCamps style!

The FarmCamps season is over... we're spending more time indoors and it's starting to get cold. We really have to accept that winter is coming. How do you keep the kids busy this winter? Bring a little bit of FarmCamps into your home! In this blog we give you 10 tips to entertain your kids this winter... FarmCamps style! And we're not talking about movie tips on the iPad!

1. Go on a winter walk
The fresh air is always good! Wrap up warm and go to the forest with the family. During this walk you can make a winter picnic pit stop with a hot drink and lots of blankets!

When it snows, it is even more fun to go to the forest. Make a snowman with the kids in a nice place. In the forest you can also take the best pictures of your children, if they stand still and feel like having their picture taken of course! ;-)

2. Bake a recipe from our blog together
There are delicious recipes on our blog. How nice is it to make one together this winter? We recommend the farmer's poffertjes! In combination with warm cherries or chocolate sauce this is the perfect winter lunch. Put on some music and make it a fun activity.

3. Marshmallows
Do your children miss roasting marshmallows at FarmCamps? Or are you secretly looking forward to it yourself? Of course we completely understand that! But, no worries, there are also options for this in the winter! How about a fire pit or at a safe distance by the fireplace. Roast marshmallows with the children by the fire pit or fireplace! Add a blanket and you are guaranteed a cozy evening with the family.

4. Crafting
Like at the FarmCamps farms, doing some crafting? Our blog contains various fun crafts with materials from the farm. Such as a bunch of flowers made from an egg carton. Of course, you can also come up with a fun craft project yourself!

5. Racing through the puddles
Would you like to race around on the cross bikes and go-karts on the farm? What's stopping you from racing around on your bike or even a go-kart through the forest or the park at home? Of course, racing through the puddles at full speed is really cool! Keep in mind that the children are not wearing overalls here and can therefore actually get very dirty! It's part of it but it would be a shame if it happened with that one new white outfit!

6. Winter barbecue
What really gives you the FarmCamps feeling? For many parents and children, it is barbecuing at the tent. But... can't this also be done in the winter? It has something, right? Light the barbecue and enjoy the coziness together with a thick coat, candles and delicious food.

7. Help the birds
Birds have a hard time finding food in the winter. Get to work with your children to make the tastiest winter snacks for the birds. I am sure that the birds in your garden will soon be the healthiest in the whole street! This can be done by making a peanut necklace, but all kinds of other things can also be used to make your garden bird-proof! So you can make it as crazy as you want!

8. Fake snowball fight
Is there no snow? Then we'll pretend? A snowball fight with rolled up socks outside in the garden! And that doesn't hurt either. That's another advantage. When there is snow, it is of course also fun to have a real snowball fight. But, we have to be a bit realistic: that has hardly happened in recent years. Hence this fun alternative!

9. Searching for animal tracks
When the soil is moist, you can search for animal tracks with the children. You can match these tracks with the right animal using a search card. If you really find a nice track, you can even make a plaster cast of this track! This can of course also be done from a nice leaf or other part of nature. Also fun, stamping with nice leaves or other forest finds.

10. Pizza winter party
Did the children make a pizza on the farm themselves and are they still talking about it? Then this is a must! Get the tastiest fresh ingredients and let your children decorate a bare pizza base with their own combinations! Easy to prepare in your kitchen and also super fun! Do your children not like pizza that much? Farmer pancakes are also easy to pimp with syrup, smarties or other sweets!

So there is plenty to do indoors and outdoors in the winter too! We wish you lots of fun during this FarmCamps-less winter! Hopefully you will occasionally bring the FarmCamps feeling into your home and we will see you again next spring at one of our farms.

Luxury camping and the art of the perfect holiday cocktail

At FarmCamps, they understand that modern holidaymakers are looking for an authentic connection with nature without sacrificing comfort. The concept of farm glamping combines agricultural education with high-quality recreation, involving families directly in the daily activities on the farmyard. The experience of cocktailtjes.nl shows that this active form of relaxation supports mental calm and helps bridge the gap between city and countryside. While children learn the basics of livestock farming and play freely around the farm, parents can truly unwind in a lovely setting while enjoying one or more cocktails. Kids happy, you relaxed.

Adventurous outdoor life for the whole family in Southern Norway

A farm holiday stands for freedom, muddy wellies and learning where our food comes from. For families who love this kind of down-to-earth holiday, a trip to Kristiansand in Norway is a fantastic next step. Here you combine the charm of outdoor living with spectacular scenery. Farm life, Italian style

Anyone who loves camping on a farm and the outdoor life will feel right at home in the south of Italy. The region of Puglia is known for its agricultural character, but with a Mediterranean twist. Instead of cows in the fields, you’ll find endless landscapes of olive groves and vineyards. Staying at an agriturismo or a masseria (a historic farmhouse) is the perfect way to experience this rural lifestyle. Children can play freely in nature while you enjoy the peace, space and tranquillity.

City and countryside combined

A farm holiday stands for freedom, playing in the mud and learning about nature. However, the experience of brugge.nl shows that many families like to combine this rural tranquillity with a cultural day trip. From experience, we know that during a FarmCamps holiday you’ll probably never want to leave the farmyard. But if you’re staying on a farm in the south, a visit to Bruges is literally just around the corner. It’s the perfect way for children to discover not only farm life, but also the rich history of a medieval city.

On the farm: how to get your dog used to other animals

Farm life sounds like a dream to many people, and for dogs it truly is one too. There are new scents to discover everywhere, plenty of space to run around, and all kinds of animals roaming about. Still, that first encounter with a cow, horse or chicken doesn’t always go smoothly. Out of sheer excitement or hunting instinct, your dog can get into serious trouble or scare the livestock badly. According to the experts at labradoodleinfo.nl, a calm and controlled introduction is therefore crucial for the safety of all animals on the farm.

Outdoor life with a little extra: farm holidays beyond the border

A farm holiday is all about being outdoors, animals, space and freedom. Children can get messy, discover where food comes from and spend their days playing in nature. But sometimes there’s a desire to combine that farm feeling with a little extra: culture, sunshine and a different setting.
