Who doesn’t know the farmer… FarmCamps Mariekerke

These are Albert and Annelie. Albert was born and raised on the farm in Mariekerke, and Annelie originally comes from Kruiningen. Together, they run a sheep farm. They milk sheep and make yogurt and cheese. They also have a few cows (as a hobby) and sell meat packages (Blond d’Aquitaine). Albert and Annelie live on the farm with farmer Ko and farmer’s wife Nelleke, Albert’s parents. They met each other through their Social Work studies.

How many animals do you have on the farm?

300 sheep, 5 cows, chickens, goats, ducks, rabbits, and a pony.

Why did you become farmers?

Albert's older brother stopped running the business, which gave us the wonderful opportunity to continue on the farm.

What does a typical workday look like?

The day starts at 5:30 AM with milking. After that, we feed all the animals, and then we usually do some general maintenance and odd jobs around the farm. Around mid-afternoon, we feed the animals again, and at 5:00 PM, we milk again. At the end of the evening, we do another round of feeding for the sheep… and then lights out!

What do you enjoy most about your job and what do you enjoy least?

It’s a beautiful job with a lot of freedom. The least enjoyable aspects are the uncertainties we always have to account for (prices, illness). But fortunately, the positive aspects definitely outweigh the negative ones.

What do you do as a FarmCamps farmer on top of all the other work you already do?

Cleaning all the facilities, organizing and running activities, and keeping the guests satisfied. There are also several behind-the-scenes tasks that you don’t see but that need to be done, such as the administration.

Why did you want to become a FarmCamper?

The combination of running a farm and entertaining people, letting them experience farm life.

What is the best thing you've experienced with FarmCamps guests?

Too many to mention, but satisfied guests are always our goal.

Dogs and farm life: enjoying space and freedom

The romantic image of a dog running freely around the farmyard is a dream for many people. On a farm, they have plenty of space to sniff around and burn off their energy. According to the enthusiasts of allesoverhondenrassen.nl, this setting is a true paradise for active animals. However, life among heavy tractors and livestock does require clear rules.

Outdoor life with a little extra: farm holidays beyond the border

A farm holiday is all about being outdoors, animals, space and freedom. Children can get messy, discover where food comes from and spend their days playing in nature. That’s exactly why so many families choose a farm holiday close to home, in the Netherlands or just across the border in Germany. But sometimes there’s a desire to combine that farm feeling with a little extra: culture, sunshine and a different setting.

Farm life under the sun (even when you look a little further)

At FarmCamps, we believe in holidays close to home. Staying on a farm in the Netherlands or just across the border in Germany – that’s where it starts for us. But let’s be honest: sometimes you feel the urge to look a little further. And if you do decide to travel abroad, why not do it in a way that is just as pure and child-friendly as the farm holidays you already know?

No headless chickens, just farm life: this is what a family holiday really feels like

Many families know the feeling all too well. A holiday that begins with stress before it even starts. Rushed mornings at the airport, crowds at busy holiday parks and constant stimuli telling you not to miss out on anything. The result is a holiday that costs more energy than it brings.

At FarmCamps things work very differently. No headless chickens, just farm life. And you can take that quite literally. You wake up to the sound of chickens scratching around the yard, not the noise of hundreds of other holidaymakers. Your day begins at your own pace and you feel the calm return instantly. Whether you choose to stay with a farmer or in a luxury tent, FarmCamps is all about relaxing. You do not have to do anything, but you may do everything. Finally a holiday that feels the way a holiday is meant to feel.

FarmCamps starts partnership with Trees for All

At FarmCamps, everything revolves around being outdoors, discovering new things, learning and enjoying farm life. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to become an official Forest Partner of Trees for All from 1 January 2026. Over the next three years, we will plant at least 2,000 trees together, half of them in the Netherlands — creating our very own FarmCamps Forest. How great is that?

Still, it’s not always easy to capture those spontaneous moments well. How do you make sure your photos remain genuine and natural, without looking too posed?
