6x a great alpaca holiday

Our farms are not only home to cows, sheep and chickens. There are also many farms with alpacas. Logical, because no one can resist those sweet, soft, fluffy animals with their funny faces and nice, woolly legs, of course. There are many locations in the Netherlands where you can go for a day trip with an alpaca, including our farm Alpaca Vorstenbosch. But, what about spending the whole vacation with your favorite animals?

Original overnight stay among alpacas
Can't get enough of alpacas and love other animals too? Then consider a weekend on a farm with alpacas. Then you can not only relax in your luxury tent and enjoy farm life, but also occasionally check on your favorite animals, take endless selfies and stroke their soft wool. All the ingredients for a special vacation close to home!

A little more about the alpaca
Originally, alpacas live in the Andes Mountains in Peru, Bolivia and Chile. In the Netherlands they are mainly kept for fun and for their super soft wool, of course. Because of their wool, alpacas can withstand temperatures from -40 to +40 degrees Celsius.

Alpacas and llamas are often mixed up. That in itself is quite logical, since they are also related! They are both camelids. Yet an alpaca is a completely different animal: whereas llamas have traditionally been used as pack animals, alpacas cannot actually carry weight. Also, alpacas are sweeter in character than llamas, They therefore pretty much only spit at each other, or if they feel very threatened.

Our 6 farms with alpacas:

FarmCamps Alpaca Vorstenbosch
What's in a name? The name says it all, of course. Spending a whole weekend or a vacation on a farm full of alpacas? At FarmCamps Alpaca Vorstenbosch there are more than 60 alpacas and every year about 20 new alpaca foals are added! Fat chance you'll see one born when you stay at this farm, because alpacas give birth from May to August. How fun is that! At this farm, in addition to helping feed the alpacas every day, you can take a cool alpaca walk around the yard or through the adjacent forest. Or craft and with alpaca wool, eat pizza among the young alpacas and take lots of pictures of your favorite alpaca. But of course there is more to see and do on the farm than just alpacas. Cuddle with the sweet bunnies, chickens and cats. Scooting around the yard on one of the go-karts, cooking in the mud kitchen or doing somersaults on the trampoline. It's all possible here! FarmCamps De Kalverliefde
Johan and Anna live on this farm in Stramproy, near the Belgian border. Alpacas also live here, including cuddly alpaca Tommy (who can't wait for you to pet him ;-)). You can help the farmer with feeding the calves and giving them vitamins. But there's more, you can also do crafts with the farmer, take a covered wagon ride or of course just play a lot! FarmCamps De Bosrand
Farmer Martijn and Naduah and their young kids Dayo and Maya live together with a lot of animals at this super beautiful spot in the Drenthe forests. More than 30 ponies live at FarmCamps De Bosrand, but there are also alpacas, donkeys, deer, goats, cats and rabbits. A real colorful animal farm! Every day you can help take care of the animals and cuddle them. Real pony fans can also indulge themselves here. They can take riding lessons here, go on an outdoor ride and even rent your own pony for the entire holiday. Or would you rather go for a walk with a pony in the forest next to the campsite. And not only that: the alpacas on this farm are also up for a lovely walk through the forest, they can secretly nibble on every leaf 😉. Read more about this beautiful farm in Ellertshaar here

FarmCamps De Smulhoeve
Farm De Smulhoeve is located in Kaatsheuvel. Farmer Karin Smulders lives here with her family and a large herd of horses, ponies and Shetland ponies. In addition to all the horses and ponies, there are also many other animals on the farm, such as goats, pigs, cats, chickens, rabbits... and of course alpacas. All sweet animals that are ready to be cuddled. And that's not a fairy tale, it's really true!

On this cozy farm you will mainly find many Shetland ponies. Super reliable and sweet ponies that are used to being around children. Really nice: on this farm you can also 'rent' your own care pony and ride it to your heart's content and take care of your pony.

The alpacas on this farm are super cute and you can cuddle them to your heart's content, feed them daily or take them for a nice walk. The kids can also play enough on the yard and there is plenty of football to be played, because the Smulders Family is a fan of that! Read all about this horse farm in Kaatsheuvel, Brabant here .

FarmCamps Breehees
Brabantian cosiness in abundance at FarmCamps Breehees farm. Farmer Carolien and farmer Huub are Brabantians through and through. Everything on this farm revolves around horses and ponies. At Breehees you can have a great time with the horses and ponies every day. You can play games with the ponies or take a nice outdoor ride in the area. Farmer Carolien and her team give pony riding lessons every day and for the little ones there are also sweet cuddly ponies. Also not unimportant: on the farm you will find a nice café with a large terrace where you can choose from an extensive menu.! Read more about this horse boarding in Goirle here

FarmCamps De Verloren Kost
A piece of abroad in the Netherlands. This is the best way to describe the beautiful hilly landscape in South Limburg. Hidden between the rolling hills around Gulpen lies farm De Verloren Kost. At this horse boarding house, everything revolves around farmer Annemarie's great passion: horses and ponies. But in addition to the many horses and ponies, there are also many other animals living on this farm, including the four alpacas Vicky, Yfke, Lulu and Janke. You can of course help feed these sweet alpacas and admire their wonderfully soft fur. But you can also take them for a nice walk through the forest and the hills right next to the farm.

Farmer Annemarie gives riding lessons to the kids every day and organizes all kinds of other fun things with the ponies. For example, you can participate in an outdoor ride, pimp your favorite pony and decorate it completely, or be creative and decorate horseshoes. Read more about this farm in beautiful Gulpen here.

Luxury camping and the art of the perfect holiday cocktail

At FarmCamps, they understand that modern holidaymakers are looking for an authentic connection with nature without sacrificing comfort. The concept of farm glamping combines agricultural education with high-quality recreation, involving families directly in the daily activities on the farmyard. The experience of cocktailtjes.nl shows that this active form of relaxation supports mental calm and helps bridge the gap between city and countryside. While children learn the basics of livestock farming and play freely around the farm, parents can truly unwind in a lovely setting while enjoying one or more cocktails. Kids happy, you relaxed.

Adventurous outdoor life for the whole family in Southern Norway

A farm holiday stands for freedom, muddy wellies and learning where our food comes from. For families who love this kind of down-to-earth holiday, a trip to Kristiansand in Norway is a fantastic next step. Here you combine the charm of outdoor living with spectacular scenery. Instead of cows in Dutch fields, you’ll spot moose in vast forests and crabs in the sea. The principle remains the same: nature is the biggest and most beautiful playground there is.

Farm life, Italian style

Anyone who loves camping on a farm and the outdoor life will feel right at home in the south of Italy. The region of Puglia is known for its agricultural character, but with a Mediterranean twist. Instead of cows in the fields, you’ll find endless landscapes of olive groves and vineyards. Staying at an agriturismo or a masseria (a historic farmhouse) is the perfect way to experience this rural lifestyle. Children can play freely in nature while you enjoy the peace, space and tranquillity.

However, the experience of brugge.nl shows that many families like to combine this rural tranquillity with a cultural day trip. On the farm: how to get your dog used to other animals

Farm life sounds like a dream to many people, and for dogs it truly is one too. There are new scents to discover everywhere, plenty of space to run around, and all kinds of animals roaming about. Still, that first encounter with a cow, horse or chicken doesn’t always go smoothly. Out of sheer excitement or hunting instinct, your dog can get into serious trouble or scare the livestock badly. According to the experts at labradoodleinfo.nl, a calm and controlled introduction is therefore crucial for the safety of all animals on the farm.
