From Farm Holiday to Nature Experience: Exploring the Outdoors Together

What do small-scale farms and nature have in common? Both create an environment where you’re surrounded by greenery, animals, and that wonderful “back to basics” feeling. Curious how to turn a week in the countryside into a true nature experience? In this article, you’ll discover all about it including exclusive tips from Natuurhuisje.

Natuurhuisje and the Essence of a Nature Experience

Natuurhuisje is an organization that not only rents out accommodations in the middle of nature but also actively supports local conservation projects by financing and setting them up. So it was a logical choice to ask them for advice on how to make the most of a holiday in nature. Whether it’s a stay in a cozy Natuurhuisje or camping out in the countryside, their tips will help you fully enjoy it.

What Does a Nature Experience Mean?

The first thing we asked Natuurhuisje was what a nature experience actually means to them. The word “experience” is key here. Because no matter if it’s a small or large piece of nature forest or meadow, wild or landscaped the most important thing is how you experience and enjoy it. Listening to the sounds of birds and animals, admiring the landscape, or feeling the weather around you: all of this is part of the experience.

How to Create a Nature Experience During Your Holiday or Weekend Away

Of course, we also asked Natuurhuisje how you can best experience this connection with nature yourself whether you’re off for a weekend in the outdoors or even just a short walk. Their answer comes down to this simple step-by-step plan:

  1. Be truly present: You might be in a beautiful spot surrounded by nature, but if your thoughts are elsewhere it’s hard to take it in. Take a deep breath, be in the moment, and allow yourself to feel the nature around you.
  2. Go for a digital detox: Free yourself from as many digital distractions as possible, like phone notifications. Try a walk without your smartphone, or put it on silent so nature can work its magic undisturbed. Still want to take a photo? Do it but remember, you don’t have to capture everything.
  3. Use your senses: Engage your senses in different ways. Gently touch some moss or run your fingers along a tree trunk. Feel the wind or even the rain in your hair and pause to take in the scents of the forest or the sea.
  4. Slow down: Something that’s not always easy in our busy world, but definitely possible during a weekend or midweek away in a Natuurhuisje. Give yourself time to do things or to do nothing at all. No rushed walks, no pushing for as many kilometers as possible. And no quick breakfasts followed by packed schedules. On a farm or nature holiday, it’s all about slowing down, experiencing things consciously, and letting it all truly sink in.
